He had been called in by his superiors and told of some rebels in Sootopolis. It was his job to squash the rebellion through any means necessary. He would have a partner again. One of the underbosses this time. As long as his partner knew what he was doing he didn’t care who he worked with. He would just have to make sure he didn’t let his manners slip.

Like last time there was a designated meeting place where they were to meet up. It would draw less attention if they arrived to Sootopolis separately. He knew this so he didn’t mind not setting out together. That and he didn’t think he was what one would call a good conversation partner. It was just hard for him to know what to say to a person.

Ryker flew his Charizard towards the city making sure to not draw attention to himself. It wasn’t like anyone who saw Apollo would think the dual type was owned by someone that aligned themselves rocket. The young man was still careful though and made sure to land a bit away from the designated meeting place and walk the rest of the way.

He reached the designated meeting place his Charizard trailing behind him. Upon arrival he looked around but didn’t see anything. That didn’t mean much to him though. So he didn’t let down his guard. Just continued to kook around without making it obvious that was what he was doing.[break] Cillian Quinn

Where ryker hayes must travel, Cillian lives among Sootopolis' white stones.[break][break]

He leaves his house as the sun sets, painting the bay in hues of orange and pink. Summer nights were short, and many had already retired to their homes for the night. Street lamps flicker on as he makes his way to the meeting point.[break][break]

It was not for want of secrecy that he'd chosen this late hour; rather, it was the cooler temperatures that attracted the child of Circhester to the evening.[break][break]

"Hayes."[break][break]

Cillian appears to be alone, no Pokémon at his side.[break][break]

"Walk with me. What were you told about the job?"[break][break]

As they walk, the underboss lights a cigarette and puffs lazily on it.[break][break]

"They make a habit of meeting at a bar not far from here. Sources say the owner's been bitter about Starlight's popularity; takes business away from him, he says, as if it's not the problem of the shithole he runs."[break][break]

Cillian's laugh is cutting.

Upon hearing his name he turned his attention towards the voice. Since it seemed Cillian was alone he returned Apollo to his own pokeball. It would bring less attention to see two people walking by themselves. Having Apollo trail after them would garner them too much attention. It was entirely different if he was by himself and had him out.

”Just the basics that there’s a rebellion and that it needed to be squashed in any means necessary,” he told the older male. He hadn’t needed to ask what ‘in any means necessary’ meant. There was only one reason they would bring someone like him in. And that was to wipe out the rebellion if he had to. Since he did work as an assassin something like that would be easy for him.

The underboss lit a cigarette before speaking once more. Telling him a bit more about who they were dealing with. Starlight he didn’t know much about the place except it had recently reopened and had some kind of party that had to do with them reopening. Parties weren’t really his scene so he hadn’t attended. But considering he was aware that the place was owned by a rocket he felt a loyalty to defend it against anyone who would try and do something to it.

To him it sounded like the guy was choosing to blame someone else for his own problems. ”Poor management on his part I bet. Can’t face that so he chooses to blame someone else,” he said with a shake of his head. He’d seen it to many times people not able to face their own shortcomings. To people like them they weren’t the problem everyone else was.

These people needed to be taught not to mess with rocket. Which was probably why they had brought someone like him in. ”So what’s the plan?”[break] Cillian Quinn

Though it appeared that Cillian walked alone, the shadow of a steel-feathered bird passes occasionally overhead; his Corviknight scouts for danger as the men walk toward their destination.[break][break]

"By any means," Cillian agrees.[break][break]

Gone were the days of mercy, of pretending to be something they were not.[break][break]

His lip twitches in agreement with Ryker's words.[break][break]

"We're going to burn it to the ground."[break][break]

The Charizard would do nicely for that, he imagined.[break][break]

"They'll know my face the moment I step inside. I'm going to bar the entrance behind me; you'll slip around back and take care of that exit. If there are any civilians unlucky enough to have chosen this shithole for a drink, we let them out first. Any questions?"[break][break]

Down the street, the bar in question comes into view.

It seemed the underboss was alone after all. But having a Corviknight around was one thing. Having his Charizard fly overhead like the Corviknight would bring too much attention. It would be the same thing if he allowed Apollo to walk with them. Usually if he was by himself not on an assignment he wouldn’t care. But when he wasn’t on a mission he tried to keep a low profile until he could finish his assignment.

Killing people was what he was made for, so it didn’t really faze him. And it was clear from the underbosses tone that his earlier assessment of the situation was correct. That he had been assigned this mission for skills of assassination. That was just the way it was sometimes. Sometimes crossing someone would be the last thing a person ever did.

Considering what the people who ran the place were doing it made sense. And it wouldn’t be to hard to do either. His Charizard would make of that.

”No I’ve got it,” he said after having heard everything the underboss said.
[break][break]
He wasn’t a real big talker. Especially not when he had an assignment to do. The only thing he really cared about was getting it done. And as long as he followed directions he didn’t see how the fact he didn’t talk much was a problem. Of course the person he talked the most to would have to be Dorian.

Unlike many bars with a rowdy, cheerful atmosphere, this particular watering hole had a somber air about it. A glimpse through the front windows revealed sparse patronage, with most drinkers gathered around a particular set of tables.[break][break]

The civilians, unaware of the danger they'd placed themselves in by their choice of location, could be identified easily enough by the space between them and the crowd that Cillian indicates with a dip of his head. He and ryker hayes have yet to be noticed.[break][break]

"Around back," he says, by way of parting. "Be ready."[break][break]

Cillian gives him a minute before entering the bar.[break][break]

At first, his presence is acknowledged only by a few curious glances and a squint from the man behind the bar. Then, the scrape of a chair against old wood as someone stands abruptly. Pokeballs were thrown.[break][break]

From the shadows, Cillian's Dhelmise emerges with PHANTOM FORCE and fires an ANCHOR SHOT to block the doors.[break][break]

"Civilians, out the back." He points. "Unless you want to die with the rest."[break][break]

MIASMA pools around Cillian, and he sidesteps a Grovyle's LEAF BLADE.

Peering through the window he took in what the place would look like. He immediately took note of the separate groups. Even if Cillian hadn’t indicated their targets he would’ve been able to pick them out. He took note of how they looked and made sure had memorized it so he would know who to left leave and who would perish.

Moving away from the window he simply nodded before slipping away. Once he was around the side of the building he released Apollo from his pokeball before continuing to his destination. Once at the back he stationed him near the front door opening it slightly but didn’t fully open.

He kept up his guard as he allowed the civilians to come through but was prepared to engage anyone that wasn’t suppose to be let out. Luckily for the targets they had decided their best course of action was to try and take Cillian out in a Pokémon battle. The sounds of the Pokémon attacks could be heard from where he was.

From what he could see all the civilians had gotten clear. Though unsure Cillian could see him from where he was he signaled that all the civilians were out and waited for a signal to start his own attack.[break] Cillian Quinn

Cillian's heart rate picks up as he dodges another attack with swirling shadow. Another Pokemon is released from his belt, this one a Roserade that scatters DARK SPIKES across the floor. Men who try to run find themselves stumbling over sharp thorns, stumbling as poison shocks their systems. The Grovyle who'd tried to assassinate the Rocket underboss is dispatched with a VENOSHOCK.[break][break]

Only when he is sure his life is not in immediate danger does Cillian turn toward the back door where he knows ryker hayes awaits.[break][break]

"Time to show these men what happens to those who defy Rocket."[break][break]

MYSTICAL FIRE blooms from the Roserade's bud, licking hungrily at wooden tables.

He could hear the sounds of battle from within and part of him itched to join in. He had been given his orders though and he would never disobey an order. So he would just have to be content with waiting for the signal. And of course watching the door. If any of them did try and escape through the back entrance he would be ready for them. Something he doubted would happen because known of them seemed overly bright.

The underboss caught his eye and finally he received his signal in the form of Cillian’s Roserade unleashing the move mystic fire. That was his cue to start with his own reason for being here so he gestured for Apollo to begin. ”Torch the place,” he told the Charizard and with that the dual type would raise into the sky and breath out fire sending out a flamethrower.

He kept an eye on Apollo to make sure he didn’t overdue it. He figured that Cillian has a plan to get out before the place completely went up in flames so that wasn’t the problem. It was more that he didn’t want the fire to end up spreading to the surrounding areas. So he was keeping an eye on things to make sure that didn’t happen.[break] Cillian Quinn

Heat overwhelms.[break][break]

It dries out his throat and stings in his eyes. It labours breath. His skin is seared with it...[break][break]

... and in a swirl of cool shadow, he finds himself outside. He returns the Dhelmise who'd ALLY SWITCHED with him, as well as the Roserade whose flames catch curtains and clothes alight.[break][break]

Parts of this building are made of Sootopolis' white stone. When the fires inevitably burn out, their charred husk will be what remains of the tavern who'd dared to challenge Rocket's dominion.[break][break]

The rest of the city, under the protection of the syndicate, must be protected.[break][break]

"Ensure that fire doesn't spread." It seems he's already been doing that, at least. "Do you have anything to control the smoke?"[break][break]

The underboss sends out a Corviknight whose DEFOG halts the choking spread of billowing black. Still, the heat and smoke reminds Cillian of Kanto. His spine prickles cold in spite of the blaze.

Even from outside he can feel the heat. He can’t imagine how the underboss must feel if he can feel it from where he’s standing. He maintains his ground near the door though, choosing to only step back when Cillian joins him, having used ally switch with one of his Pokémon to get out. Meaning that the only ones who would be harmed by the flames would be their target and his lackeys.

Hearing his comment he simply nodded. There was no need to point out he was already doing that. It’s also why he called Apollo back to his side, the dual type landing beside him as he kept an eye on the flames to make sure that didn’t get out of control. And with the wind from Apollo’s wings no longer fanning the flames that shouldn’t happen.

”No, none of my Pokémon have moves that would help with that,” he told him upon hearing the question. Luckily it seemed Cillian just had the thing. A Corviknight that knew defog. It helped keep the smoke from spreading, so that was something at least. Though it did make him wish he could help. But as he had said none of his Pokémon knew moves that would be much help.

Even here, safe on the white stone paths of the crater city, the heat is intense.[break][break]

Cillian calls out an Alolan Ninetales whose SNOW WARNING mists in the air, a soothing counter to the blaze.[break][break]

They watch until it is certain that those trapped within would have perished, if not to the smoke then to devouring flame.[break][break]

"Well done."[break][break]

The rumble of Cillian's deep voice rises over the crackling.[break][break]

"I've called grunts to extinguish the blaze and deal with any clean-up." It was above his pay grade, and Ryker's team seemed more suited to causing fires than halting them. "You're free to go."[break][break]

There is a pause, however, expectant, in case ryker hayes had more to say.
